Grassroots Community Teams

Motherwell Football Club Community Trust runs a number of community participation teams. Boys' Teams run at 2004s, 2005s, 2006s, 2007s, 2008s, 2009s, 2010s, 2011s, 2012s, 2013s and 2014s. Girls' teams run at Under-9s, Under-11s, Under-13s, Under-15s and Ladies' Development. We also run walking football and para football squads.

The teams play in a number of leagues across Central Scotland.

Most of our teams are full with waiting lists. If you would like to join one of our teams, please complete the form here and we will be in touch to advise on the next steps.

Our teams are participation only: we are not linked to Motherwell FC Academy.

Participants pay a monthly membership fee of £30; this fee pays for administration, player registration, team affiliation, cup competitions, minibus lease, pitch hire, referee fees, playing kit, coaching kit and equipment, first-aid kit, COVID-compliance resources, first-aid training and coach education.

All coaches are SFA qualified volunteers and members of the PVG scheme; each team has a qualified first aider and a COVID Compliance Officer.

Pre-School Football

Our Steel Tots programme is the first stage on our player pathway and is aimed at pre-school children aged between 18 months and 3 years old. Children then progress to our Mini Steelkids programme which is aimed at pre-school children aged between 3 and 5 years old. These sessions are all about fun.

Steel Tots is an interactive session for parents and children aimed at promoting physical activity, health and social interaction. This programme is currently paused because of COVID restrictions at the venue.

The principle of Mini Steelkids is to develop a child's fundamental motor skills, focusing on the "ABCs": Agility, Balance, Co-ordination and Speed.

The aim is to give children good physical literacy.

Sporting Memories

As a result of funding from The Robertson Trust we have a dedicated development officer for older people's activities. A key element of this work is our partnership with the Sporting Memories Foundation Scotland. Weekly sessions took place at Fir Park. These unfortunately have been paused because of COVID.

Diversionary Programmes

As part of the Scottish Government's CashBack for Communities programme we will be delivering the "Off the Bench" project in partnership with the SPFL Trust. Off The Bench is a 16-week programme for 18-24-year-olds who have committed, or are considered likely to commit offences or engage in anti-social behaviour, particularly, but not limited to offences in and around football matches in Scotland.

Community Wellbeing

The Trust works with a wide range of community partners and community groups to support our local area. During the March-June lockdown the Trust delivered over £25,000 of support by donating food parcels, electricity vouchers, mobile 'phone top-ups and mental health care packages. We work in partnership with local agencies to avoid duplication.
